Make your visit to St Lucy’s Church even more memorable by taking a walk to the nearby Zakam peak
The trail starts in Jurandvor, a village near Baška famous for the Baška Tablet, an important piece of the Croatian cultural heritage. Start your sightseeing tour in St Lucy’s Church, one of the most famous churches on the island and a rare example of the pre-Romanesque Croatian architecture with a bell tower on its front side. There, as well as in the neighbouring buildings, you will find out more about the Baška Tablet, one of the monuments of Croatian literacy, created right here nine centuries ago.
After visiting the abbey complex of St Lucy, walk up an easy hiking trail in the shade of pine trees. Upon reaching the Zakam peak (170 m), turn right to a nearby viewpoint to marvel the view of Baška, St John’s Church and the islet of Prvić. There you will find a wooden cross and a bench to rest your bones while enjoying the scenery and taking unforgettable photos.
Then get ready for a downhill walk on a paved road that will take you to St John’s Church. The road continues to the centre of Baška. Before returning to Jurandvor, make sure to visit local attractions such as the Aquarium, Baška Glagolitic Trail, and Vela plaža Beach. It is also a good idea to try some of the typical island dishes before taking the road back to Jurandvor.
