The two-headed Ertić peninsula, today popularly called Ćuf after the name of its southern promontory, is a genuine small natural oasis. You can reach Cape Ćuf from the nearby village of Kijac and be delighted by its biodiversity and exceptional landscape. The path leads southwest, following the coast all the way to Cape Ćuf. A long pebble beach, and then a rocky shore in the shade of oaks and pines, leads to Slatin Pond. This small salt marsh is a rare example of this biotope in the Kvarner region. Although it often dries up in the drier part of the year, different types of green algae grow abundantly in its water. The pond is visited by wetland birds and dragonflies, while countless spiders spread their webs among the rush stalks. Numerous ruin lizards can also be found here, running on the stones next to the pond.

Natural ponds have always been important for humans, but also for plant and animal species. These small freshwater oases in the otherwise arid karst landscape signify life and should therefore be protected as a great treasure.

From the Ćuf peninsula, the route ascends through a forest area and returns in a circle towards the village of Kijac. The trail is ideal for nature lovers and all those who want to spend an active day in the fresh air.
